How can you tell that glass is Madras®?
Madras® glass is made exclusively by satin-finish and/or chemical etching processes, which give the glass a unique luminosity and its surface exceptional silkiness, fineness and uniformity.
True, when dealing with technical characteristics, a practised eye is needed to see certain differences: you can be sure of the genuineness of the glass you choose by checking that the glass model that interests you is in the Madras® catalogue
Is a “crystal” door more valuable than a door made of Madras® glass?
No doors are really made of “crystal”, a type of glass that’s enriched with lead and has a brilliance reminiscent of diamonds. Crystal is used exclusively for highly intricate products, such as lenses, wine glasses, chandeliers, etc.
Doors, windows, tables, etc. are always made of float glass, ie. glass that’s perfectly flat and free from defects, clear (with a slight green or light blue dominant), extra-clear (with no dominant colour and thus more similar to crystal) or paste coloured (bronze, grey, green, blue, pink).
What really gives a door its prestige is the processing of the glass, as in Madras® glass, as well as the quality of the accessories of course.
Is Madras® glass more delicate than other glass?
No. Madras® satin-finishing and chemical etching techniques give the surface of the glass an exceptional silkiness that makes it highly resistant to dirt, fingerprints and so on, and is easier to clean than glass that’s frosted by sanding. Its beauty lasts over time.
Do the decorative patterns on Madras® glass deteriorate over time?
Absolutely not. The decorative patterns on Madras® glass are etched into the glass, not painted on. So they don’t undergo any alteration as time passes.
How do you clean Madras® glass?
Madras® glass should be cleaned with a wet cloth, preferably micro-fibre (ie. not abrasive), and any of the commonly marketed glass detergents. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a perfectly clean micro-fibre cloth, being careful to always wipe in the same direction.
Is it possible to have sizes different from those in the catalogue?
No. Madras® is produced industrially in 2250 x 3210 mm plates. This ensures constant quality at all levels and far lower glass plate costs than in the case of artisanal products.
Can I order a Madras® glass door direct from Vitrealspecchi?
No. Madras® glass is manufactured by Vitrealspecchi in 2250 x 3210 mm plates. All the subsequent processes involved in making a door (cutting, grinding, drilling, strengthening, etc.) can only be carried out by glass transformers.
How much does a door made of Madras® glass cost?
We can’t quote a price because it depends on the type of door, size, the glass you choose, the transformation processes it has to undergo, etc. To get an estimate, we advise you to contact your local supplier or a glass dealer.
